My history

I started my career 25 years ago working for a family business specialising in high-spec bespoke orangeries and conservatories. This laid the foundations for both my passion and expertise in working with wood as well as the additional skills and vision for larger building projects.

Working on projects large and small, old and new

I have managed projects of all scales, from refreshing a small space to working on large projects with architects and construction teams.

Today, I work mainly but not exclusively with traditional buildings, restoring them to their former beauty. I am passionate about traditional architecture and design and always renovate sympathetically towards the character and history of the building.

Specialising in wood

My main passion remains to be working with wood, undertaking bespoke joinery and carpentry such as roof lanterns, kitchen and bathroom cabinets, wardrobes and window replacement and repair. I work from start to decorated finish. I am also a competent glazer and can install Glass Resin Polyester (GRP) roofing.

I am based in West Oxfordshire and will work within a 20-mile radius, occasionally taking on projects in West London.

What my clients say:

“Alan does the three things a craftsman needs to brilliantly: planning, execution, finishing. He works out how to transform what I want into reality, whether that is really well sound-proofed windows or devising a narrow threshold to link uneven floors; his handwork is consistently  first-class; and he goes that extra mile to finish off and clear up the whole job. He is utterly trustworthy, reliable, and a delightful person.”
— Dr. Elizabeth Koepping

“Alan created for us an absolutely stunning new kitchen, finished to an impeccable standard demonstrating rare craftmanship. The entire experience was a surprising pleasure. Alan has such enthusiasm for his work and great skill. He will listen to what you want and envision, and then bring his own input which is always pertinent, creative and practical. I have never encountered any tradesperson who takes the level of pride and care in their work as Alan does.”
— Gabrielle Brown

“Alan has worked with care and skill to repair and replace windows and window frames in my listed property, which has seen some bad repairs in the past.  As the windows are part of the listing, have been very pleased to find someone who takes the time and care to make a difference in the finish.”
— Mrs Julie Penny

“We have known Alan George for nearly 30 years.  He came to our house when he was working for his elder brother constructing and repairing conservatories.  Since then Alan has come to do various repairs and work on our conservatory.

Over the years we have found that the work he has done for us has been of excellent quality.  He is efficient, knowledgeable and rather a perfectionist, taking great pride in his work.  He is also very trustworthy and he gives the right advice on how to proceed with the repairs that are needed.  His commitment is to finish a piece of work to the best of his ability and to the satisfaction of the client.

Alan is a warm-hearted, sociable, intelligent and loyal person.  We have been very pleased with the work that he has done for us over the years.  We have every confidence in recommending him to you for both his professional and his personal qualities.”
